How Sleep Deprivation Can Wreck Your Health

Getting enough sleep is essential for the healthy function of your body. The nervous system is most drastically affected when you don’t get enough sleep and can cause changes in memory and behavior. Not getting enough sleep can affect your decision making, ability to control emotions, and increase depression and anxiety. 

Additionally sleep deprivation can alter your immune system's ability to fight off infection and it can increase systemic inflammation.

All of these reasons are enough to make some adjustments and get back to sleep ASAP.


Morning Outdoor Yoga

Getting outside in the morning sun helps set your circadian rhythm. Your circadian rhythm is an internal clock that rises and falls in a cycle throughout the day. It tells your body when it’s time to fall asleep and when it’s time to wake up. If this gets off course, your sleep patterns can be off.  If you can get outside in the morning, this will allow your body to balance your circadian rhythm.

Yoga Nidra, or yogic sleep, is a form of meditation that you can do anytime of day including before going to bed. Anyone can practice yoga nidra, as it is as simple as lying down or sitting in a comfortable position while you listen to a guided meditation.
