Holistic Self Care for Busy Women
Does it seem impossible to find any time to take care of yourself and live a healthy lifestyle? I totally get it. We are responsible for…so…much.
Taking care of family, our careers, our households, running with kids activities and even caring for our pets!
I remember a time when I literally would wake up and run non-stop until bedtime. People would talk about their favorite Netflix binges and I just couldn’t relate, as I didn’t have one spare minute. Literally. So needless to say, I was putting myself last and my health and wellbeing were suffering as a result. It wasn’t until I started making a few small changes in the areas that really matter, that bigger positive changes started showing up in my life.

What is Holistic Self Care?
We are getting back to the basics. These things need to be in place for your life to begin to work on all levels. A holistic routine encompasses the whole person: body, mind and spirit. When these parts of yourself are in alignment, you will see positive changes in your life. Taking care of yourself in this way is the basis of self-care and should be looked at as an essential part of your routine. Self care is not indulgent, but necessary. You will see what I mean….

Easy Mindset Shift
This one change can undoubtedly make the biggest impact in your life. If you believe and constantly think you are too busy to get anything done, then that is what your life will be like. Positivity is key here. When you get overwhelmed, just think “I have plenty of time for everything I need and want to do.” Make this your new mantra. It may seem insane to be thinking this when you are doing 12 things at once, but trust me it’s the beginning of a mindset shift. Start feeling and believing it and you will soon see things get better. Or Try my Free Mindset Tools download!
Get Some Sleep
Sounds easy enough. But you really need this foundation in place to be able to take care of your many responsibilities during the day. If you are dragging and barely awake, how can you take care of yourself let alone your family. Check out my Restful Sleep video course to take all of the guesswork out and discover the foundations of a holistic lifestyle and why that is essential for great sleep. Just a few small changes can really impact your life in a big way. There is no reason to keep struggling if you are staying awake all night.
Replace Scrolling on your Feeds
It is so easy to escape into other people’s worlds and scroll for hours. But let’s try something new so you can get some great “me time”. I suggest listening to some guided meditations or relaxing music. You can play this in the background even while you are working. Switching it up and getting those positive vibes will be a quick way to turn around your day.
You could also try some gratitude journaling as a wonderful positive energy boost.
Also be mindful of your breathing. We often are stressed and breathe way too fast. Take some slow deep breaths when you are feeling overwhelmed and you will feel yourself relax in no time.
What to Eat?
You have to eat and grocery shop, right? So just rethink things a bit here. Instead of selecting processed foods, select items from the outside aisles. For example, select a meat to roast in the oven (or slow cooker) and a few veggies as sides. Forget the complicated recipes where you need to buy 15 ingredients. Just toss your food with some high quality olive oil, some herbs and seasonings and keep it simple.
Ridding your life from the toxins of processed foods will go a long way in your overall health. No strict diets here. :)
Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate
I am huge advocate of drinking enough water. Water is essential to every process of your body and can even increase energy during the day. Drink 50% of your body weight in clean water daily. Skip the tap water. Carry a refillable water bottle and have it in the car with you while you are running the kids around, commuting, errands, etc. Never be without a filled up bottle of water. You can even add lemon, berries, cucumber, basil or cilantro to give a burst of flavor and nutrients.
Move Already
When there is no time to hit the gym, you have to come up with more creative ways to fit exercise into your schedule. My favorites are to get out there with the kids. If you have kids, join them when they are playing ball, biking or running. You get amazing bonding time and exercise is a great bonus. Other things you can do are to take a 5-10 minute work break and walk the stairs or around the block. Get a friend to do the same and the accountability will keep you on track.
Taking care of yourself is not all about spa treatments and long baths, although those are great too! It really boils down to some basics that are going to get you feeling great, maybe for the first time in a really long time.
